 Twitter vs Trump

What happened?

Trump uploaded tweets (on site now known as X) inciting the invasion of the capitol building and spreading misinformation about the election results in which he was projected to lose.

What did twitter do?

they decided to remove him on January 8 after judging that his tweets had helped incite violence in the capitol on January 6

Why did they ban him?

Two tweets were put through the glorification of violence policy of twitter. The second tweet in question was especially put in emphasis as it included Donald J. Trump encouraging an attack during the inauguration of Joe Biden, representing it as a safe target

What will it do to everyone else?

The ban will show Twitter's intolerance for misinformation and incitement of violence. It shows that twitter is a safe place for the average user who may be concerned that people might be seeing such things. This decision enraged Trump's supporters as they started to call Twitter a tool of the machine, catering to the needs of the democrats. This eventually led to Donald Trump launching his own site called Truth Social

Implications to the website?

Twitter are set to have greater distrust particularly from Trump's supporters who believe that the election was in fact rigged. It helped keep twitter advertiser friendly as keeping Trump on the site has huge risks for sponsors and advertisers
